WHY STONE GROUND?
Traditional flour is milled using high-speed steel rollers, milled at high heat. Stone Milled flour is milled between two large stones, at a slower speed. This keeps the flour cool during milling, preserving all the flavour and nutrients.
Van Assen Farm is a family run farm, consisting of Steven & Joanne and our four young children. We began grain farming in 2012 buying and renovating an old farm site and slowly adding land over the years. In 2021 we were searching for a way to add value to our produce and develop a relationship with our customers, deciding on stone ground flour. We built a new facility for our flour mill early 2022, leading to where we are today. Our grains are locally and responsibly grown, using modern farming practices, all while remembering we are stewards of God's creation.
